Optical Gas Imaging Sensor

Advanced Aerial Gas Leak Detection

Advanced Gas Leak Detection with Optical Gas Imaging

At Talamone Group, we bring innovation to the forefront of gas infrastructure monitoring with our drone-based Optical Gas Imaging solutions. Designed for precision and reliability, our technology enables the remote detection of even the smallest gas leaks—safely, efficiently, and in real time. Thanks to its compact size and adaptability, the Optical Gas Imaging sensor can be mounted on drones, ground robotics, or installed as a fixed monitoring system.

Whether you’re overseeing oil and gas pipelines, inspecting storage facilities, or requiring continuous surveillance, our system offers unmatched sensitivity and performance. By visualizing gas leaks through advanced imaging, we help clients across industries detect issues early, reduce environmental impact, and enhance operational safety.

Industrial Applications

Our Optical Gas Imaging camera systems are tailored for a wide range of use cases in the oil and gas sector, offering flexibility for both mobile and fixed installations.

Applications include:

  • Monitoring of drilling and production wells
  • Surveying of fuel gas lines, above/below ground pipelines, and LNG terminals
  • Flare stack monitoring for burned and unburned gases
  • Leak detection on storage tanks, barges, railroad tank cars, and tank farms
  • Integration into UAV platforms or fixed systems for continuous surveillance

Advanced Imaging Technology

Built around a high-performance MWIR (Midwave Infrared) detector, our cameras offer high sensitivity and long service life—making them ideal for demanding environments.

Key features:

  • Hot MWIR focal plane array detector
  • 640 x 512 VGA resolution (4x higher than conventional 320 x 256 FPAs)
  • Optimized Optical Gas Imaging lenses: 25mm (21.7° × 17.5° FOV) and 50mm (11.0° × 8.8° FOV)
  • Two models:
  • Standard version: for handheld, drone, or ground-based use (rated 16,000 hrs)
  • Optical Gas Imaging-CM: for 24/7 fixed installations (rated 24,000+ hrs)
  • Lightweight (542g), compact design with low power consumption (SWaP-optimized)
  • EPA NSPS 40 CFR Part 60, Subpart OOOOa certified for compliance and safety

Gas Detection Capabilities

The Optical Gas Imaging camera can detect a wide range of gases—even down to 6g/hr—across various conditions such as distance, weather, and background temperature contrast. The system’s real-time Gas Enhancement Mode (GEM) enhances visibility by colorizing gas plumes, supporting fast and accurate decision-making.

Gas Enhancement Mode (GEM) Features

Our Optical Gas Imaging system includes an advanced Gas Enhancement Mode (GEM), which enhances real-time visualization by colorizing the gas plumes—making even the smallest leaks easier to detect from longer distances, under varying environmental conditions.

Key GEM features:

  • Real-time visualization of gas clouds with optional colorization
  • Four selectable GEM color modes, or grayscale option
  • Stable imaging without pulsing for continuous monitoring
  • Adjustable sensitivity for optimal visibility depending on weather, distance, and gas type
